Frequently asked questions
How does it work?
Zeds join the team for a three- to six-month commitment and are immediately assigned to client-serving digital or creative teams. In many cases, they work on the agency’s largest global accounts, such as Microsoft, Nokia, Ford and Citibank. Graduating Zeds are then evaluated for full-time positions across Wunderman.
Why is there a need for the program?
Marketers are constantly challenged to keep communications relevant for the audience that consumes the majority of content online. Zeds are highly connected, with many having grown up using today’s most popular digital media, which has earned them the nickname Digital Natives. Their native technological fluencies are at the core of digital marketing and advertising strategies, and will be a vital asset to our network.
How does Z Academy differ from an internship?
Z AcademySM is not an internship. Its total immersion approach gives students work experience on multimillion-dollar accounts that goes well beyond traditional internships. Zeds are given real work, collaborate with real teams and are given an extended look into the inside world of a world-class advertising agency.
Which schools participate?
In 2011, eleven of the best digital marketing, design, and social science universities from the US, UK, and Singapore were added to the program:
1. Polytechnic Institute of New York University (U.S.)
2. Newhouse School at Syracuse University (U.S.)
3. Savannah College of Art and Design (U.S.)
4. Central Saint Martins: Innovation Centre, London (Europe)
5. University of East London (Europe)
6. City University London (Europe)

What kind of work will I be doing?
As Zeds, you will be immediately assigned to client-serving digital or creative teams and in many cases you will work on the agency’s largest global accounts, such as Microsoft, Nokia, Ford and Citibank, depending on the office and need.
I’m still a student. What if there is too much expected of me?
We’re looking for talent. We know you have it, and we are here to help you refine it in a professional work space. Our offices are fully aware that you are still students and that is why we do everything we can to support you, including assigning you a mentor with whom you can meet bi-weekly to discuss projects. You will be expected to follow the normal work rules and hours expected of any full time Wunderman employee and complete all your assignments within the timeframe that your supervisor establishes for you.
Before you arrive, you get all the information you need, including details about housing, materials to help you prepare and advice about how to make the best out of your stay.
Where can I work?
Better question - where do you want to work? In 2011, Wunderman will match students with our Wunderman offices and sister agencies all over the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Will I need a visa to work in a different country?
Yes. Once you are accepted into Z AcademySM, you will receive all the required information and materials to take you through the process of getting a visa.
Will I be dropped off in a foreign country alone?
No way! Once you arrive, a dedicated local support team will help you feel right at home. A Zed Ambassador will help to familiarize you with important local information, a mentor will help you to navigate at the office and a local supervisor will be there to help you with your day-to-day assignments.
Am I responsible for housing and airfare?
Zeds are responsible for their own airfare and for finding, securing, and paying for their own housing arrangements. The stipend we provide is generally sufficient to cover the costs of modest housing arrangements, in addition to assisting with some basic living expenses. We will provide you with information and resources to help you locate housing within an easy commute to the office.
Will I get paid?
Yes, all Zeds receive a stipend, which will vary depending on location. All Zeds can be assured that it will cover basic expenses.
How long is the term at Z Academy?
We require a minimum three to six-month commitment, depending on your school calendar. Because Zeds follow the structure of full-time positions, Zeds work an eight-hour day. This is the best way to get the most out of your experience.
Is it actually a school?
No. It is a part of the Wunderman Talent Management & Global Learning Program. We model Z AcademySM after typical full-time employees’ experience, giving Zeds access to a full suite of training classes that are offered to full-time employees at Wunderman.
What happens after work hours?
We will have some great activities planned for you outside the office. Your team will include account managers, designers and marketers who are recent grads and who will have great advice about where to go once the work day is done.
What happens once I complete the program?
Following graduation, Wunderman will consider the exceptional and interested participants for full-time employment. This is a great way for students to get one foot in the door to a full-time job doing exactly what they love to do! And it’s a great opportunity for Wunderman teams to integrate digital talent from the ground up!
